Smith Maritime is a family of 5 independent companies which together provide a wide range of services and capabilities for the maritime industry. Our highly skilled personnel and large inventory of modern equipment routinely respond to challenges ranging from bunkering and marine transportation to spill response. Our unique family structure allows for rapid inter-company communication, the best equipment for the job, and the skill and knowledge to complete the job effectively and safely. Although our capabilities have increased dramatically since our beginnings, we still maintain the commitment to customer service insisted on by our founder, Jimmy Smith. This tradition built our success in the past and will continue to guide us into the future.

Jimmy Smith was born and raised in the sea-faring city of Honolulu. From an early age, Jimmy was passionately involved in diving, boating, and water sports. His knowledge and love of the sea led to a career as an underwater photographer and deep sea diver, one of the pioneers in this dangerous and exacting field. He quickly earned a reputation for skill, integrity, and being "ready to work". His first vessel, Uaukewai, was fitted in 1971, and Uaukewai Diving, Salvage & Fishing was formed in 1973. Through the years, Jimmy's skill at investing in the best people and equipment, and his legendary reputation for honesty and dependability, has transformed this fledgling company to one of the largest and most respected maritime businesses in the Pacific. In 1992, his oldest son, Gordon Smith, took over the helm of the company. Like his father, Gordon was raised around the waterfront and taught at an early age that the success of the company will always depend on maintaining the reputation of integrity that has been earned over the years. Today, Smith Maritime continues to build its fleet and its expertise.
